Thesis subjects
If you want to do a thesis at our group, you can choose from one of the following subjects. Please also read our page on research. If you like one of the subjects contact the person that is mentioned with that specific part of research. If you wat to do a thesis and are unsure of all our options, please contact Marieke Bruins via email. Possible thesis subjects are in the field of:
- Life cycle assessment or LCA: this is the investigation and evaluation of the environmental impacts of a given product. An example of a LCA at our department is e.g. biofuel (oil) production from Jatropha. This type of evaluation is often combined with a technological and economical evaluation of the process. Design and development of (small) scale biorefinery technologies fulfilling PPP (people, planet,profit) boundary conditions. At the moment we are working on sugar beets, Jatropha and (ligno-)cellulosic rest streams (Contact: Marieke Bruins) There is now the possibility to do a thesis on protein solubilisation from biomass (see word document at the bottom of this page).
- Design and development of synthesis pathways to bulkchemicals starting from agricultural waste streams and/or from molecular modifications in the crop. (Contact: Elinor Scott)
